Behind the sketch.
The Humes-Irvine House, and neighboring Cole House at 408 Holmes, were once known as the "Twin Sisters," a fitting nickname for two late-Victorian houses with a strong family resemblance. Built in 1897, 410 is the slightly showier sibling, with a projecting gabled bay, Gothic tracery, a polygonal corner bay, turned porch posts, and enough spoolwork to keep a carpenter entertained. The families' exact connections to the house remain less clearly documented than the architecture.
