The story
Behind the sketch.
This Victorian cottage dates from the late nineteenth century. Records vary between the late 1880s and 1890s, but since the National Register of Historic Places says 1899, I'm going with 1899. This home has long been one of Holmes Avenue's welcoming corner houses. Tall ceilings, original wood floors, fireplaces, and three covered porches speak to a time when shade and cross-ventilation were necessities rather than lifestyle features.
