Wells House

The story

Behind the sketch.

Built in 1900, the Wells House belongs to the opening chapter of Five Points, before the neighborhood's later wave of 1920s bungalows. Emma Wells owned the property until her death in 1917. Her husband, William S. Wells, died the same year the house was built, and Emma appears to have remained at the family home on Pulaski Pike instead of moving into the newly-built property. The name therefore records a long association through ownership rather than a confirmed residence. More than a century later, this lovely Victorian has survived the test of time.
