Guthrie-Garvin House

The story

Behind the sketch.

Built around 1910, this upright-and-wing house became the home of W. S. and Leola Phillips Garvin and their daughters, Hettie and Mary. Their son Cressie Thornton Garvin, longtime owner of Garvin Feed and Seed, was likely a frequent visitor, but apparently never lived here. Contemporary newspapers listed the family residence as 809 Randolph, suggesting that the address changed sometime later. The house gained two single-story additions around 1970, and its present entrance stoop replaced an earlier porch.
