Walker-Lowe House

The story

Behind the sketch.

Built around 1834, the Walker–Lowe House is a Greek Revival residence with a formal hall-and-parlor plan. It was later associated with LeRoy Pope Walker, the Huntsville lawyer who became the Confederacy's first Scretary of War, a major national role that lasted only a matter of months, but permanently attached his name to Civil War history. The grounds also carry an unusual local detail: an old city reservoir was reportedly adapted as a garden feature.
