Manning House

The story

Behind the sketch.

Built in 1912, the Manning House dates from the period when Five Points was developing into one of Huntsville's first streetcar suburbs. Pratt Avenue formed the neighborhood's principal boulevard, and its streetcar line allowed residents to live beyond easy walking distance of downtown. Houses soon filled the narrow lots along the route, creating a neighborhood of Victorian cottages, bungalows, duplexes, and the occasional home determined to stand a little taller than its neighbors. Construction of the house is attributed to A. M. Booth, a Huntsville contractor and lumber dealer whose company supplied materials for the city's rapid growth.
