Cummings House

The story

Behind the sketch.

This 1940 Cape Cod-influenced Colonial Revival house was the first home built by Milton J. Cummings, a leader of Brown Engineering, one of the early high-technology companies that helped shape modern Huntsville. The triple dormers and round window in the front gable give the house a friendly, almost storybook appearance. Cummings later played a major role in developing Huntsville Research Park, which was renamed Cummings Research Park in his honor. The house therefore marks an interesting threshold: a traditional prewar home connected to the people who were about to turn Huntsville into an international center for engineering and aerospace.
