Behind the sketch.
The Bernstein–Brahan House began around 1818 as a smaller early residence. General John Brahan acquired the property in the 1820s, and enlarged it so the house seen today represents more than one construction campaign, rather than a single grand plan. That growth mirrors Huntsville itself. A modest building from the town's earliest years expanded as wealth and ambition increased, eventually becoming part of the polished streetscape now associated with Twickenham. The two family names preserve different chapters of ownership, while the brick and timber preserve the changes those families made.
