The story
Behind the sketch.
Built in 1925, this Neoclassical Revival house began with a hipped roof, dormers, Corinthian pilasters, dentil molding, and a columned portico set on sandstone piers. Jones & Herrin Architects renovated it in 1975, and another substantial project followed around 2009. The changes eventually altered its historic appearance enough for the National Register survey to classify it as noncontributing. I first painted this house in its present form. For this sketchbook, though, I nudged it back toward its earlier design, a bit of architectural restoration without the permits, expense, or construction dust.
